VIN Country-of-Assembly Helper

A local browser tool that checks whether a 17-character VIN begins with the identifier allocated to Canada.

By Daniel R. NorthcottReviewed August 4, 2026General information

The first three VIN positions form the World Manufacturer Identifier. The first character indicates a geographic country or region allocation. A VIN beginning with 2 indicates Canada. This is useful for final-assembly research, but it does not measure parts content or corporate ownership.

Enter a VIN to begin.

Privacy and limits

The check runs in your browser. Do not use this page as the only verification for a purchase. Confirm the exact vehicle with manufacturer information or an official VIN decoder. The 11th VIN character is often used for plant identification, but codes are manufacturer-specific and should not be guessed from a generic chart.
